Toronto Fire Pumper 343 (using a spare) at St. Clair and Avenue Rd. going to a fire call at 2 St. Clair W. on June 12th, 2008. Just like on Spadina, the St. Clair streetcar right of way has become a defacto fire lane.
If people knew what to do when an emergency vehicle was coming, or if they did it, or if the paid attention and saw/heard emerg veh approaching then this wouldn't be needed.

"Fire trucks have difficulty manoeuvring around the centre poles to bypass streetcars waiting on the track to allow emergency vehicles to pass...
"This is an urgent concern of public safety for the literally tens of thousands of local residents who live in the vicinity of St. Clair Ave. W. and who rely on emergency vehicles to be able to move quickly and safely across the street," said Cesar Palacio (Ward 17-Davenport).
