I was invited to a concert to see Einaudi in 2009 at the Lighthouse in Poole. Whilst he has not always been top on my playlist, his nightbook album which he was touring at the time had me fixed on to the beautiful, and somewhat haunting music Einaudi had composed. The first track on the album is In Principio, and it's made up of a very simple harmony of only really 2 main chords. The piece live filled the room, and with the added fx i really was in awe upon hearing such a beautiful delicate piano piece alongside some great fx. As per usual, i decided to pick up the tune by ear, and begun playing it on the piano, and played around until i had created my own version. Mine is quite a bit different from the original, i have a fast flowing passage which develops in mine for example, which you will not hear in the original. I have also made use of extra effects on the piano, i've double up pianos, and i've been playing a lot with various synth patches, and adjusting resonance, cut off and filters, and then mixing it all with some old tape delay. It's been a lot of fun, it's also taken a long time to craft the sound i was trying to put across.
I'm hoping this version will take you off into space somewhere.
