This is a short video of me continuing to practice with PK-MAT, my 5 channel Hobby Zone Super Cub. It was a beautiful day, but a little windy. It seems like it is going to take some time before I feel comfortable with the DX6i. I can fly without crashing, but using the rudder with my left hand isn't quite a muscle memory task yet. It also feels strange to control the throttle and rudder using the same stick. A lot of time when I am turning I incidentally increase the throttle. The ESC I am using has a brake, which really needs to be replaced. I can't taxi slowly and the flaps don't have the desired effect with the engine cutoff so high. I find myself cutting the engine on and off during landing, which isn't very realistic ... there's always something to work on in this hobby.

The first part of this video shows the flaps and ailerons a bit better than I've been able to before. I started a blog about RC flying. Feel free to stop by:

  • The build used in this video didn't have big enough ailerons with enough throw to turn. It was my first attempt. Once I got the size / throw right I was able to fly as you suggest.

  • You have ailerons. Why would you use rudder for turns? It helps to learn rudder control for sure, but most of your turning should be done on the right-hand stick. Rudder is mainly used for take-off and landing. It's also used for precision areobatics. Smple pattern flying is aileron/elevator.
