1937年10月，日军进攻忻口的地面部队和后勤补给不断受阻，只得借助空军，频繁地由位于代县西南的阳明堡机场出动飞机，加强空中轰炸和运输力量。当时，八路军第129­师的抗日先头部队第769团，正由东冶向原平挺进，插入忻口日军后方，执行牵制敌军的任务

Dear Members,

One item that the US O.S.S. developed for China was an item that looked like a stick of dynamite. All aircraft have small round holes in the fuselage for inspect and to let water out. This device had a timer that kicked in an air pressure unit and when was activated 30 minutes after take off and it measured 5000 feet it would explode and blow the aircraft tail off. Many were given to the PLA for sabotage of aircraft. The Japanese never knew about it till after the war.
