• SUMMARY •

A commercial from 1960 for Winston Cigarettes featuring the Flintstones. This would be very surprising and weird to see on TV today.

  • This actually appeared during the second season (1961-'62). The series was primarily sponsored during its first two seasons [as 'Misc' has noted] by Miles Laboratories [Alka-Seltzer, One-A-Day}, and R.J. Reynolds {Winston} as "alternate sponsor". In those days, the sponsor expected the cast of "their" show to deliver an "integrated" commercial for their product at the end of the episode...and Fred and Barney were no exception.

  • @fromthesidelines - Thanks for the info! :)

  • This is just all kinds of wrong!

  • @linesinthesand97 - However, surprisingly, not considered all that wrong for the time. Initially, "The Flintstones" was aimed at adult audiences, explaining Winston's co-sponsorship of the show during its first two seasons.

  • For a time they also banned hard liquor ads also.

  • This isn't any more odd than watching Homer Simpson drink beer or even smoke pot. Like The Simpsons, The Flintstones was a prime-time show that was intended for adult audiences.

  • Marlboro Man was excavated by archaeologists in Texas. Skull was in good shape but lungs were in petrified.
