So, Travis here at Epic Loots had the original Steel Battilion controller for the XBox just collecting dust, and turned it over to Joe to see what he could do with it.

Well, in just two days, he changed the connector to USB, wrote a 64-bit driver, and integrated it into the custom soundboard/skype call system we have. We can now officially answer incoming calls to the podcast by pressing the "Start" button on the controller, and hang up on calls by pressing the "Eject" button.

  • It's more of a .NET library that rides on top of LibUSB, but it could be integrated into other applications. Right now, only those two buttons work...I still have to debug the raw output coming out of the controller and attach all of the events...but I plan on releasing it as open source as soon as it's finished.

  • EPIC useless is EPIC!

  • Holy crap dude, that would be awesome! I've got two (!) SB controllers plugged into Win7 x64 right now, but I'm not good enough with Windows development to make them work. (The one time I wish I wasn't a Linux monkey!) If you could actually release a working x64 driver for these things, you would get much love from the community.

  • That would be amazing.

  • Woah, woah, woah. He wrote a 64-bit driver for the SB controller? One that actually works? You have no idea how many people have been looking for something to get that damn controller to work in 64-bit versions of Windows, myself included. There is an awesome driver called VTCHID that works for 32-bit versions, but no one has made it work with 64-bit.
