This is the largest trout I have ever landed. It is up in the Nimpkish Valley. This cutty was 24 1/2 inches long. It only weighed ~ 3 1/2 lbs. My best friend has caught a few heavier but none near that long yet, but his dad caught one that was almost as long (23 1/4 inches) and it weighed over 6 pounds.

  • Man, I think your scale was bogus, If that trout was realy 24.5 inches long. 24.5 inches is the minimum length for Chinook Salmon, and I have wieghed many at that length, they are usualy between 6.5 to 7.5 pounds. I know that a salmon would have more fat in it, but that fish lookes to be well proportioned. I would guess it's weight at just over 5 pounds.

  • Hey thanks, and you could easily be right.

    I didn't weigh it...but I did measure it twice!

It seemed skinny for the length...thats why I guessed lower in weight...but it was a wally for sure...one very fine trout!

    Thanks again.

  • What kind of lure did you use?

  • It was a dew worm on a #4 hook behind a ford fender gang troll.

  • neat video

  • Thanks...it was an awesome experience..only could have been better if someone was in the boat with me to share and film the big catch!

  • way to be a jerk man cutthroat 20-24 inches long weigh anywhere for 3-6 lbs my dad got one abut that size weighed 4.5lbs

  • nimkish has a bait ban?

  • Nice video. That certainly is a trophy Coastal Cutt. The thing to keep in mind about most cutthroat's is that they have big heads and tails and those don't add up to much weight. I fish Pyramid Lake in Nevada for Lahontan Cutthroat, where a 24" would typically run about 4Lbs, but a girthy specimen might go over 5Lbs.

Your fish is certainly a trophy for its subspecies.

  • huson lake vancouver island just south of port mcneill

  • the guy below me is probably right i caught a 23 inch brown that looked skinnier than that and it weighed in at 4 pounds
