@SnowbirdFlock - Performing in "brownface", appropriating the clothing of a Native culture, and trivializing violent oppression of Native people by choreographing it for a competition *is* racist. We'll just have to agree to disagree, but it saddens me that more people were not uncomfortable by people painting their faces brown and acting like "Indians".

I'm appalled that they actually painted their faces brown, dressed up like "Indians", and then staged a battle in the water. This is racially insensitive and terribly ignorant of the violent history of the persecution of Native people. I cannot believe that they thought this was a "cute" idea. This is no different from painting one's face black and then staging a performance of slaves fighting their masters. We have a long way to go if people think this is still okay.

The theme of the routine at this international FINA competition was something typical of the country. The Canadian theme was cowboys and indians.
