"The decision to view this garden as a work of art by the narrator is inspired and the insistence of the objects' integrity by using language usually associated with high art and its aesthetic challenges the viewer to abandon their horror and amusement at this display of contemporary folk art."

Sophie Artemis Pitt, September 2007

Commentary
We are about to witness an intruiging garden that reflects a unique vision. We call this place The Sligo Garden.

Here are some of the sculptures that are featured in the space. These elements come together to form an Irish Folk Art Sculpture Garden.

You may get a fleeting glance of colour as you drive past the garden on your way to Rosses Point, Sligo.

The gardener has collected Disney characters, creatures wearing sunglasses, a footballer, a granny, a cat and a hedgehog. Snow White looks down the garden, past the cartwheel and the donkey to the road below.

We imagine this project started off as a modest project that grew and grew organically.

This area is on the theme of red, black and white. Another theme seems to be domesticated and companion animals. There is a small grouping of dogs and there's a companion soft toy elephant with his elephant friends. We see famous friends, we see a footballer, Snow White, following the white and red theme nearby there is another group of larger sculptures - a sheep, a ram and a pig with sunglasses and a hat.

A pathway leads us up into the garden to see a whimsical and mischievous tableau. We encounter a cow - cowboy who has been dressed for the part, in hat, jeans and a gun. The Aston Villa soccer player is ready for the game - he comes with his football in a net bag, while a pig with a woolly hat and sunglasses looks on. We see a cow with a blanket or a cover, a sheep and a ram, and a sculpture of Venus who is wearing a woolly hat.

Making a garden enables personal expression in creativity. This gardener has developed their own glorious individuality. Here we witness the compulsive flow of creative energy.

The Sligo Gardener is uninhibited in style and we are thankful for the gardeners generosity and wit.

  • This garden seems a fable

  • Over here, there are art exhibits each year, with themed animals in some of the cities. The cows dressed/decorated as different things have been seen in Houston Texas mayeb San Antonio and Chicago if I remember right. We have guitars every year as this is where the Rock and Roll hall of fame is-the guitar artwork is very cool too. They get placed around the city.

  • Somebody should tell that reporter the difference between an Arsenal kit and an Aston Villa kit. The soccer player is in an arsenal kit.
