Alt-Az systems like Dobsonian telescopes may be moved in azimuth (horizontally) and in altitude (vertically) axis. It is important to get a smooth movement in both axis. This way you may easily follow a star or a planet inside the field of view. Here we test the smoothness of these movements.

Music by myself, in order to avoid copyright problems.

This high quality equipment is a Dobson Reflector of 406mm in diameter and 1829mm of focal length.

  • Hey they forgot to cover the main part of the body to keep the light out. Just thought id mention.

  • @Zoroasterrrr That's so people don't mistake it for a cannon and call the cops.

  • @BackstrokeOfTheWest Yes, it may be a bit embarrasing ...

  • @Zoroasterrrr True. It is important to use the shroud when viewing under light polluted skies.

  • how are the dimensions of the particular parts of the scope?

i want to know whether i can transport this thing in my mazda 3 or not ;)

  • @PatCruiser Have a look at this picture: cloudynights com photopost data 3209 110777PackedInCar.jpg (add a slash at each space) In this case, the telescope base has been hacked to reduce its size.

  • It's billed as ultra portable!

  • @CumputerPhysiscsLab i will buy the 12" version cause i can put this in my mazda as one piece ;)

  • @PatCruiser This is a very big scope and you would need a pickup or a van. Probably you could manage to transport in a regular car, but it would be really unconfortable. This scope is meant to stay in a place, always the same place.

  • Yes, a plastic cover. Very useful.
