Along with Maslow, Carl Rogers introduced humanism as a reaction to psychoanalysis and behaviorism. Rogers is the father of counseling psychology and co-father of humanism in psychology (with Maslow). Rogers put the focus on the person coming to counseling, not the therapist and his theories. This is real help for real people. Here's Dr. Ken Tangen's introduction to Carl Rogers.

  • Rogers fostered empowerment, (Carl Rogers on Personal Power). That’s more power for the client and less for that “weak” therapist, a change in “the politics of therapy.” His theories have also been among the most widely researched in psychotherapy (& education). He also, like Maslow, repeatedly advocated a revised scientific paradigm for psychology, (cf Man and the Science of Man & etc). This, (& Maslow’s The Psychology of Science, & etc) has been largely forgotten by history, & by textbooks.
