It transports one back to the time of Handel.

He has no mercy and just rips your heart out. Wonderful!

@wishingonthemoon1 btw, he was so much more friendlier than when I met Netrebko when she was there with friends on the night of the Don Gio premiere. I think it's just she gets frustrated over the fact she can't speak english that well.

@wishingonthemoon1 was actually there too. I'm a college student, and I can't wait for all the opportunities I have to see these amazing Met performances. Rodelinda was absolutely awesome, and Enchanted Island has already blown my friend's mind; i'm so excited to go.

Andreas Scholl: the finest countertenor in the world as far as I'm concerned.
The Baroque period is one of my favorite and opera is another of my favorite styles. The merger of them is like a marriage made in heaven to my ears.

@tatumpiano I had the same reaction. The production as a whole was very hit and miss for me, but this aria was sublime.

@yezdnil How fortunate you were. If they had a time machine, I would pay a high price indeed to be able to attend. I think that production was very very special.

He is the best countertenor I ever heard in my life, I swear he is amazing......

I met him yesterday!!!!!! He was nice! It was the signing Ms. Fleming and he did at the Met. I am only 16, and Ms. Fleming is my idol, I think he was amused with how nervous/excited I was! =D
This is undoubtedly the most beautiful song Scholl has done. I saw this opera live and after this scene, the applause went on for minutes. If I could have gone every night, I would have. There is no finer voice than Scholl. He is perfection. Thank you for putting this on youtube!

I saw this production back in 1998 at Glyndebourne. Andreas Scholl's performance was simply perfect. At the end of Dove Sei, many people in the audience (including me) were audibly sobbing. The poor sod who came on at the end of the aria had to wait about 5 minutes before he could carry on - the applause was defeaning! A true artist.
