  • @TumblingDice66 You are correct: It's a heel pivot and a toe tap with the opposite foot. There are other ways of doing it, but that's the way Dean does it in this clip.

  • I read that Mary Ann Nunez was one of the dancers here...looks like her on the left side

  • I was trying to include this link:

    itunes.apple.com/us/album/things-aint-what-they-used/id7313218?i=7312904

  • Ben, it is a Duke Ellington arrangement of Things Ain't What They Used to Be. It's just a lot faster than any recording I have heard Duke's band play.

Check out the slower version with Quincy Jones on the Cote d'Azur Concerts on Verve (Box Set)

The weird thing is that I've come across other recordings by Duke that are labeled with the same song name that sound completely different.

  • The music is off with the dancers in this video. To see the video and audio matched together check out:

@swinginkatz & TumblingDice66: There is no real distinction between what "makes a song a jitterbug" or a "Lindy hop" song. Also, the term "Jitterbug" often used to refer to lindy hoppers.

I would like to know the song since "Things Aren't What They Used to Be" by Ellington sounds nothing like the song in this video.

  • "Things aren't what they use to be," Thats the song. Ellington did it.

  • @swinginkatz What makes this song a "jitterbug"? Is it because it's better suited for 6 count moves rather than Lindy's 8 count moves?

  • What is that move called where the guys slowly rotate around the follows as the follows do swivels? What are the leads doing with their feet to move around in a circle slowly like that as they make their steps. It looks like maybe they are slowly cranking the circle around by rotating on the heels of their feet with each step.

  • They call themselves Lindyhoppers, but that song is a Jitterbug. Dean was one of the best. See him in the early days, and we looked and danced alike.

  • Absolutely great. I wish I could have watched brother Malcolm doing this
