Yep, Just the answer you would give! Yes, I know it isn't going to be fixed over night! Rome wasn't built in a day! I'm saying get started Now! The republicans are narrow minded thinkers and spend too much on their WARS! Notice I said their wars! Later!
jfrank, please deal in facts rather than emotion. Even if we dumped all gasoline cars overnight, which is a ridiculous notion, significant amounts of oil are needed to produce numerous other products - everything from asphault to incredients found in medicine pill capsules. And if we can produce more of that oil here to employ Americans and buy from Americans rather than sending it all overseas, we should do that. Stop thinking inside a box and realize the consequences of what you are saying.
Reducing the price is only one aspect - ending the massive transfer of wealth to foreign countries is another. And creating new jobs, with the susequent economic activity and the economic multipliers creating even more jobs. Obama wants us to think in a box and not think about the additional consequences of his so-called "plans."
popart, your emotional rant doesn't change the facts. They are not scare tactics - they are the truth. People do not drive gasless automobiles, and even if they existed to the degree they could be used to commute the same way as gasoline automobiles, people don't exactly have the cash to just dump their current cars overnight and buy new ones on a dime - you, and Obama, are out of touch with everyday Americans and reality.
True, getting off oil would take awhile, but improving the fuel efficiency of cars could be done in a couple of years, as could improved improving public transportation, both of which would reduce our demand for oil, which would cause the price to drop.
We can also invest in renewable energies, which would further lower the demand for oil.
Investing in public transport and renewable energies would also have the beneficial side effect of creating new jobs.
Well, the problem is that the US consumes 21 million barrels of oil a day. The most productive oil field in the world, the Shaybah, produces .5 million barrels a day. Even IF we started drilling tomorrow and IF it was the most productive oil site in the world and IF we kept it all in the US, it would still only reduce the price by 2.5% (and that's a lot of IFs).
If it takes 8 years, then why don't we start now? >_> And the technologies to switch america completely off oil are going to take at least 20 years. How about you libs open your eyes and realize that switching completely away from oil isn't logical.
Screw Drilling alltogether! Make new gasless automobiles! Let's face it, we don't need any more of these cheap scare tactics! This add sucks just like the owner of this channel! Vote Morons for G.Dubbya McCain 08!
