A steady stream of birds come to the feeder in the boreal forest. The red birds are purple finches. The yellow birds are goldfinches. The blue backed bird is the little feisty nuthatch. The smaller striped birds are pine siskins and the larger striped birds are female finches. Relax and enjoy!

  • Anyone know the name of the really high pitched on way in the back ground? It sounds like it has three tones, One high and two low.

  • @MotiveCap the one that goes deee dah (those descending to:) doooo doooo doooo is the white throated sparrow. Sometimes they leave out a middle note so its one high, two low. Sometimes they go up !! They always repeat the last note, 2 to 4 times. :)

  • My backyard in the summer has no birdsounds, only bugs and crickets which i find depressing :(

What can I do to attract more birds, just put up birdhouses?

    thanks

  • Hi,

Put up a bird feeder first. Put it in a spot where the birds can see around for about 12 or 15 feet, this helps them avoid cats! The best seed to use is the black sunflower seeds packaged for birds. I would avoid the mixtures because the birds seem to only like the sunflower seeds. Once the birds know where the food is, and they visit every day, then you can build a house for the birds you like the best.

  • @NatureSoundsCa you live near forest, awesome place for relaxing

  • The purple finch is the state bird of New Hampshire, but he doesnt know that ;-)

  • @NatureSoundsCa That is extremely helpful. Thanks a lot!

  • I have a nuthatch frequenting alot now. they seem to like black oil sunflower seeds the best. I dont know why but i smooshed some peanut butter on a tree and then pushed a few handfuls of seeds into it. the birds went crazy.

  • Fantastic. The woods in the background harbor many bird varieties I suspect. This is paradise. Wish I got these many varieties on my feeder. We live on a golf course and all we get are finches and common sparrows. Thanks for posting this. Just great!

  • It could be that they are finding lots of natural food on their own these few winters. I bet they will come back.

  • Hi,

Here the birds like black sunflower seeds. If I put out a mixture with all kinds of seeds, they don't come. The smaller birds like niger seeds too. Someday I will get some out for them. Every winter is different. This winter is mostly Pine Grosbeaks with very few redpolls or goldfinches.

  • amazing, so many colors...

this is heaven, and it's nice that some people can see it even tho they don't have it out their backdoor.
