And by the way, Oliver Sach's anecdotal books ("the man who mistook his wife for a hat" and "anthropologist on mars") Are MUCH better.

Robin Williams is good when the directors tell him to SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DO THE SCRIPT.

@2010PT He didn't say that. He said that because he's such a crazy stand up comedian it makes it hard to believe him as a serious, uptight character.

@2010PT It didn't say he saw the crazy persona role. He said that BECAUSE he view him as a crazy persona kind of guy, he felt his role in this movie was too mechanical in trying to avoid those mannerisms. I still disagree with his opinion, as I very much loved this movie and Robin William's performance in it, but let's judge him on what he actually said, ok?

De Niro was stupendous in this one. I can't believe how far he's fallen.

@metafact . Can you give an example? I thought Robin Williams was terrific in Good Will Hunting, Insomnia, and 1 Hour Photo.
Gene Siskel is WAY WAY off on his relfection. I thought Williams did a fantastic job and I did not see the crazy, stand up comedian at all in this role.

Its funny how misleading the trailer is, it makes it look like a feel-good story like "Forrest Gump" but its a rather sad film (and fairly historically accurate). I really love this film, De Niro is at his usual level of greatness and it demonstrates why I love Robin Williams as a actor so much, he's just as masterful at drama as he is at comedy and this film he does both (sometimes at the same time).
Its refreshing to hear Siskel and Ebert (well Ebert at least) give him some praise.
