Hey, the term you were thinking of with the driver was most likely "tip trimmed". Hard stepping only applies to iron shafts. Tip trimming is when you cut the shaft from the tip which makes it play stiffer than the flex. Tip trimming generally makes the shaft play one flex stiffer per 1/2 inch.
