One of the handful hits Scott Stevens will most be remembered for, classic Scott Stevens. Eric Lindros picks up a loose puck at center ice and skates it over the Devils blue line with a head of steam. As Lindros crosses to his right, Stevens steps up and delivers the hit

This was the hit that ended Lindros' time as an elite player.

How many times did Lindros have to be destroyed with his head down across the line before he stopped doing that shit? This was a perfectly clean hit; led with the *shoulder*, Lindros had his head down, shoulder hit the jaw, and his elbow wasn't high enough to hit Lindros anyway as Lindros is 4 inches taller than Stevens.

He didn't leave his feet, either, pause it at 1:12 and you'll see both skates on the ice.

Not bad for someone who finished his career with 4 elbowing penalties in the season

Stevens raised his forearm and gave Lindros all he had with his shoulder right to lindros jaw. Stevens intention was to take off Lindros head.

Lindros has had dirty hits too in the league, he is no angel. Look what Lindros did to Dakkel, total bullshit hit. These guys need to be sanctioned and fined heavily for this stuff and up to dismissal from the league.

Hah! That's a joke. He made some questionable hits throughout his career, I will give you that. But dirtiest player in the NHL, that's absurd. He played by the rules when it came to hits. The NHL didn't have as many rules when it came to hitting back in the day like they do now. So maybe by the rules and standards of the NHL today, they would be dirty hits. Back in the day, most of them weren't.

Now Claude Lemieux was probably one of the dirtiest to play the game. More so than Stevens ever was.

I will not argue that. I saw him play many many times back in the 90s, watched him raise the cup in 95, and have several autographs. I think he is one of the best defensemen of all time. The league was a bit different back then.

Obviously this would warrant a suspension today, but the fact is Stevens was vilified for years essentially for being one of the best defenseman in the league. Stevens was a player's player, even Messier said Stevens is the one guy he most hated playing against but wished he had on his team.
