make a new form of transmission that does an exelent job ,build in problems, dont supply dipsticks and make it hard as possible for people to work on it them selfs,
any reference to gearbox at all will include [ dealer only ] make it expensive very expensive ,worth more than the car make it a mortgauge job then call it a DSG:
-
correct, this is happening on my VW Scirocco now. Too complex ...

Don't be too excited about the DSG. 7 speed DSG has a range of problems. And will break down more easily ... I have been driving a Scirocco for the past year. The box is not mature yet. VW has now quietly reverted back to using a wet DSG7 for its GOLF MK6. Dry clutch 7 speed DSG is crap. Read up the forums and see how many new GOLF and Sciroccos stalled on the highway ...

VW AG and its development and design partners (Luk, etc etc) should be congratulated on delivering the new standard in automotive transmissions. The patent on "nested levers" is a masterstroke.Efficient and satisfying. This is state of the art in automotive transmissions. Especially when integrated with automatic handbrakes to reduce the thermal demand of the clutch. Once again, Germany through VW sets the standard. "Das Auto" indeed.

Looks like it would work wonderfully for a few years, but its shifting is at least as complicated as a normal automatic transmission's, and having at least one clutch disengaged all the time would be hard on the throwout bearings. Also, how would you pushstart the car if you needed to? On the whole, I would still own a manual transmission. Still, I must say, what a marvelous feat of engineering.

I SEE THE MUCH LOVED ,..dual mass flywheel ,included , surprise ,surprise :)
