War Admiral had his dad's physique but Seabiscuit seemed more aggressive toward the end. I wonder if they knew or even just a feeling they were related. we need to see Zenyatta vs. Rachel Alexandra. it would be so hyped up. a filly version of the same race to determine horse of the year.

I just watched a documentary on PBS about Seabiscuit that gave me chills.
That little horse had it all.

This race is a good example of why I don't think "match races" really, truly settle who's better. My reason being, Seabiscuit, no doubt was a quick, fast, and great horse. But in races with full field's, where tactical speed would play a part, I'd speculate and say that War Admiral would win 7 or 8 out of 10 races with full field's against Seabiscuit. JMO.

Don't get me wrong the movie Seabiscuit is one of my favorites, but the 2003 movie really took the drama out of this match. In reality War Admiral was heavily favored to hit the first turn first. It was a total shock to everyone that Seabiscuit took the lead, the movie almost made it obvious that Seabiscuit would. This race in reality was incrediably dramatic, can't even put it into words.

I have a 40x60 framed print of the four length photo of Seabiscuit vs. War Admiral that is hanging in my living room. This is the metaphor for life "never count out the underdog"! Seabiscuit uplifted a pre-war depressed United States. We need to remember that this was a horse that nobody thought much about until he showed them what he was made of!
