I am about to build a flag for MW and low-band amateur radio. I had to watch your vids to see how well they work. I am very impressed. From my modeling and simulations, however, I have found that having the feed and resistor in the center of the vertical elements works much better. From my model, I find that I should be able to get a front to back of better than 40dB from lower MW to about 7MHz; with a peak of 64dB around 3.8MHz, as this is the band that I want it optimised for anyway. Cheers.
@kc8ntp hi the slinky flag was just an experiment to see if it was working. i am back using the normal flag and fed at the center of the vertical and same with the resistor. conditions of late have been very poor and not a patch on last season. check out my blog for what i am up to ... the link can be found on my channel page
if you open up the resistor you get 2 directions with it ie the figure 8 pattern then you tweak the resistor and it goes back to the cardioid pattern so i dont really need rotator as i am only interested in the west and east thanks for watching happy new year ... david
Great video David I like the slinky flag antenna it seems to be working great for you..the perseus receiver looks interesting does it pick up much interference from your PC I have to have my pc off to listen on the MW bands I think it is the power supply on my laptop that makes the interference. But good demo David cheers.....oh and congrats to Ken for Dxing Alaska! cheers and beers Mark

Interesting antenna. It's small enough that it could be put on a wooden frame, outside, and turned with a rotator! Hmmmmm ..... LOL!
