This video is part of a 6-pack of videos produced on different aspects of EU policy by the IIEA. They are accessible, easy to understand and were produced as part of the IIEAs Europe 2.0 project, sponsored by the European Commission.

This video examines the Lisbon Treaty, detailing what the Treaty means, the reasons for the No vote in June 2008, and the actions taken at the Irish and EU level since the Irish referendum result.

  • Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha..... Democrasy....... Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha .

At least we still have a sense of humour.

  • so many words to explain something simple...... Brussels hosts the EU institutions; I mean, they have to be hosted somewhere, right? There's got to be somewhere were the people working in those institutions meet right? Brussels is quite simply a host; it's that simple

  • I thought these videos were made for everyone in the EU; seems to me it's mostly for irish; is IIEA irish?

  • you are a fucking idiot!

  • may I ask why Slovenia isn't on the map!?

    We've been a member state since 2004.

  • It's a good video to explain the EU, but I don't like the idea of an EU President. It's a step closer to being like the USA and I wouldn't like that. An EU President would be unrepresentitive of all the other EU countries that they don't come from. It should be a shared role. They're just saying Bertie might have the role, as a way of getting people to agree to the Treaty.

  • National Parliaments cannot make sure that the EU does not make laws that should be decided on locally.

The only Irish person named who has a mandate is Brian Cowen, the others are all appointees.

By refusing referendums and rejecting the result of the Irish vote it is clear that the EU rejects democracy.
