The Track "Sultan Osman - Part II" is taken from the fantastic Album "Burhan Öcal & Pete Namlook - Sultan Osman" (2001). It is a brilliant ambient release, a collaboration of Burhan Öcal, a leading master percussionist and composer from Turkey and Pete Namlook. Without sacrificing the authentic rhythms of the traditional musical instruments, many of these rhythms have been adapted to instruments of percussion. The 7 parts of this album range from massive percussive rhythms to traditional Turkish ottoman folk music to chill-out/ambient soundscapes at their best.

In this album where numerous traditional instruments are employed with their utmost exclusive features, Burhan Ocal performs on all percussions and string instruments in the songs, all of which are written by himself. The artist rediscovers the Turkish rhythm language, which is recreated when adapted to earthenware kettledrum and other instruments. In other words, he demonstrates an explicit excellence in percussion. Moreover, he furnishes it with the unique sensation of human voice.

Pete Namlook, on the other hand, is the founder of the electronic pattern free of computer kicks, yet close to analog recordings that totally give the acoustic impression peculiar to the most dominant post-rave genre ambient. Although there are prerecorded samples and sounds, three quarters of the album is gifted with the acoustic instruments to assure an organic and authentic structure. This beautiful timeless piece of music is a tribute to the great Sultan Osman.

A truly modern & rhythmic world music. Listen and enjoy it.

Musicians:
All tracks written by Burhan Öcal and Pete Namlook.
Burhan Öçal (all percussions, string instruments, tanbur, saz, oud, ud)
Pete Namlook (keyboard instruments, Moog, synthesizer)

  • Darn, I wish I could understand those Turkish words in it. ...I gotta learn me some Turkish this new year.

  • @Katiarix: Hi, Burhan is telling the legend story of Sultan Osman, who was the founder of the great Ottoman ("Osman") empire. Once he had a dream as child and a legendary visionary explained him what it means. And he got his daughter as wife...

  • An Incredible piece of art!

  • sUPER sUPER COOL !! POWERFUL, LOVE IT !!

  • The piece tells me that the composers never lost sight of the fierceness of the Turks - and it took this ferocity to obtain the Osman empire. Several cultures use the sound of that unusual cymbal sound going to battle - I wonder if that was the intent in creating this - it works!!!

  • Im totally blown away by this :

and especially the diversity of music Pete Namlook has his hands in--

I was just listening to "Silence" last night on loop on my Ipod all night sleeping and then in the morning waking going "WoW!"

This is work here is so great because Ive been obcessed with Muslimgauze lately and this is a 100 times better--

Pete is not on this too much playing as I understand, but the whole conceptual approach is very Namlook with the spoken word and the synth pads at the end

  • Man . when i watch this and when i listen to it i can only imagine all the battles during hundreds of years between ottomans and romanians !

  • this is a masterpiece,,,Burhan's best,,,,
