Hat check man Louis Blore is in love with nightclub star May Daly. May, however, is love with a poor dancer, but wants to marry for money. When Louis wins the Irish Sweepstakes, he asks May to marry him and she accepts even though she doesn't love him. Soon after, Louis has an accident and gets knocked on the head, where he dreams that he's King Louis XV pursuing the infamous Madame Du Barry.

  • Notice how Lucille Ball is allowed to actually sing in her own voice for this finale in keeping with her character. For the opening production number of DU BARRY WAS A LADY, she is dubbed by a more accomplished singer.

  • A SHOW STOPPERS & LEGENDS finale! Think of how this would have looked on a Broadway stage with all that talent. Lucille Ball was tall in stature by Hollywood standards. With high heels she is eye to eye with Red Skelton. Gene Kelly is relatively short. Notice the heels-lifts on his shoes are almost as high as Lucy's, yet he's still dwarfed by Lucy & Red. The staging and choreography also help hide this. Dancing cheek to cheek, Gene would appear too short for Lucy. That's the magic of Hollywood!

  • Thank you for uploading, you're the sweetest and kindest! Lucille Ball's great and gorgeous in the movie! She's great in Friendship!

  • The debut of Lucille Ball's trademark "Golden Apricot" red hair by Sydney Guilaroff.

  • Medicine hasn't changed. This is called job security for the esteemed Dr.

  • Lucy perfomed this song on I Love Lucy with Ethal Mertz!

  • YAY HAPPY ENDING!!!

  • Awesome movie! Thanks for posting. I'm definitely buying the Lucille Ball DVD set this month so I can own my own copy of this movie.

  • Thank you very much for a lucky opportunity to see this interesting movie.

  • The ending and Virginia O'Brien are too cute
