They recorded it before, in 1980, on June Tabor's third solo album, "A Cut Above." And I think that may be the best version of this song, even better than Richard & Linda Thompson's original version.

Wonderful, as others have said - but am I alne here in thinking that the star of this is BBC Four. They've given us John Martyn, Richard Thompson, Danny Thompson, Ivor Cutler, Robert Wyatt etc etc

Good point. In the midst of the inane nonsense that fills the airwaves I often chance across something fabulous on BBC4. Shut down ITV and give the Beeb the cash, I reckon!
