Dear God. Thats pitiful. Some A&P mechs I wouldn't let change a tire on my car.
I LOVE the 727. Wrenching on it for about 10 years (line mx) I'd say I know it "well" but I don't know the whole thing. Any A&P who says they know everything about a plane is the day he/she should be fired.
727-200 is my fav. plane. It is so easy to work on. I started on DC-8-50/60 before the 727, and the DC-9 afterward. Followed my the 737-800, L-1011, 747-300F then the 777.
The Fire Department was efficient and equipped with enough foam, that's why no fire initiated. Splashes at wing trailing edge are obvious, at the end job well done.
@MsDallasRedhead most propably you are correct says my 10 yrs flying on the type....,which reminds me, of a near main gear up landing for me, averted the final minutes...
Had lost system A hydr after take off....,coming in for landing after dumping and lowering gear manually, only nose locked down.Mains were stuck unable to turn in the way the placards were showing CW and CCW...after some holding and a cig and coffee, i found out that they were placed crossed...by someones mistake....
Interesting, the right side gear door was down but the gear never extended.... I haven't read anything about the investigation on this incident, but all my years working 727's leads me to think maybe this was a sequencing valve issue? Just making an assumption here - don't shoot :)
More dificult than LOT polish airlines landing...

PS good think you realized the placards were swapped. that would of been a rough landing.
SO, who did u fly 727's for? I worked on them at Kitty Hawk & ATA.

Funny, 747-200 & 727 are so similar.

@Lworld63 probably nothing left to ignite. Plus they had foamed the runway.
