You should turn on Rehit mode and you'll see some real combos.

Also, you really need atleast Enhancement 1 if you're using the Jaguar.

sweet review, i used to ply this game all the time! they should make ONE MUST FULL 2097 HD remix to xbox live arcade. could be awesome :D

Glad you liked it, and yes, the game's a blast.

I dunno about making it available for XBLA though. That might end up making it suck.

Go into the secret menu and you have the option of enabling rehit mode.

Tournament mode is basically designed to have it on actually. Some some specials such as the double-upgraded Jaguar Leap (Leap > Leap > Overhead Throw) simply can't combo unless it's activated. It's somewhat broken though in single-player since almost every character can produce instant-kill combos with it, but since you have a lot more defense in Tournament mode it's balanced.
