From the 1949 film "Sands of Iwo Jima", starring John Wayne. It's one of my favorite films to date.

  • My favorite movie since I saw this on the WOR Channel 9 movie when I was 7 or 8 years old.

  • 6 years old, it was on the telly in a John Wayne Marathon. Watched for Big Jake, stayed for SoIJ. ^0^

  • O:

    I learned something!

  • At 0:54, the 3 men whom John Wayne gives the flag are the real 3 survivors of the original raising flag on Iwo Jima, R.Gagnon, J.Bradley and I.Hayes (from left to right)

  • I'll finish it for him. Something we devildogs will do. Semper Fi.

  • The Marines are the best. I should know I was a proud Marine. Semper Fi.

  • i guess agar didnt go on to much more success in movies

but his line reading ' i'll finish it for him' has always stood out to

me as as fine a take as any ive ever seen on film

right there w/ robert duvall's lonesome dove hanging scene

just a take that really captures the 'weight' and 'realness' of

things an actor when he nails it at 'action!'

just my 2 cents and i dont know nuffin really ...

  • @PM2465 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA made my night dude

  • @march1836 why don't you just go fuck yourself since obviously nobody else will?

  • I used to raise flags at Iwa Jima, but then i took an arrow to the knee...

  • @pvasseur

WRONG! Just as you were wrong in stating the same mistake in other IWO threads.

  • Saddle Up! We're movin' out!

  • John Wayne was a phony and he never served our country in uniform except in the movies, the poor sap! He's a phony!

  • @pvasseur I didn't catch that, nice 1

  • This movie brainwashed me to enlist in the Corps in 93 and I'd do it all over again. Semper Fi.
