I start with 2kw of power and work up to 10kw of power before I am limited by my circuit breaker. This large brick of iron is heated close to yellow/white heat with my unit.

For information on the circuit, go to

  • There is an iPhone app, Thermal Light, that measures the metals temperature from 1000F-2700F.

  • i am a teacher in shop classes, i would like to know how to do an induction heater like your, the school where i work is very poor and we dont have any blender and it will help me to explain beter material propieties, could you please give me a hand doing something like that? what i need?

  • @cc40540 I have a detailed tutorial. The website is mentioned in the description.

  • @cc40540 If you go to inductionheatertutorial dt com (where dt = dot) I have a full set of plans along with a very detailed tutorial. I even provide some of the sources for buying the parts.

  • Why does it glow purplish pink

  • @AmericanDroid It is radiating energy. It is black body radiation. The more energy in the brick of iron, the brighter the color emitted: orange, red, yellow, white

  • @imsmoother do you honestly think that works?

  • This is not induction forging. It's induction heating. Change the title.

  • @AmericanDroid i believe that's the near infrared being picked up by the camera, you wouldn't see purple with the naked eye at all.

  • How is this induction forging when there is no forging happening here ?????

  • how much does it cost to make an induction heater like that?

  • theres an iPhone app that can do this.

  • @imsmoother no that's not the right answer. The reason why it glows pinkish instead of red is because the blue filters inside the camera's sensor also let the infrared "light" to pass (this is an artifact, but for real life photos where the visible light is predominant it's ok, professional cameras have an IR blocking filter over the sensor to prevent visible colors being altered by IR light ).

So the "false" blue combined with the actual red that is correctly captured yelds pink.

  • not exactly the cheapest way to heat a chunk of metal.

  • @imsmoother believe it yourself?
