Old Bethel Church & Cemetery is a Texas Historical Site dedicated in 1994. At the business meeting, the only known officer, the "secretery", resigned by letter which was read to those attending. A discussion begain of the need for a new cemetery committee, who would be responsible for the cemetery upkeep and the donations of over $10,000.00 in her absence. A motion to vote for a new committee was made and seconded. Several objected to this motion. After some discussion, it was agreed to wait until the annual meeting in September to vote in a new committee of at least three officers.
There were objections to the Historical Marker heard, and mention of an arbor fund being combined with the cemetery funds. There had been plans by several members to tear down the church building and build an arbor. Fifteen hand made pews had been stolen out of the building several years ago. A breaking and entering, plus theft of over $500.00 report is on record at the Sheriff's Office in Palestine. It is a priority to recover these pews and return them to the place they belong.
