  • No the didnt... listen to Louie Louie by them recorded in the famous one take. These guys started the genre of Frat Rock. Quite an important band in the history of Rock and Roll.

  • Doesnt matter that they went nowhere after that, at least they made it somewhere.

Funny though, if they sucked as much as you say they do they wouldnt even be on youtube today.

  • I liked the song as much as anyone else when it came out, but looking back, girls, was it really scream-worthy?

  • Sorry SPOCK! - thank you for sharing.

  • Same tune as BIG BOY PETE (covered by the Righteous Bros) but different lyrics. Kind of like when Elvis turned Aura Lee into Love Me Tender (invention of folk rock?) ...☺

  • There are a number of songs that I loved when they were first run away back in the early to mid-sixties. But strangely enough they fell off the face of the earth after their run in the top 40. This song is one of them! Whoever posted this, thank you! I read some comments about the Kingsmen "not going anywhere." That statement is most untrue. The Kingsmen have stayed together and played together for more than 50 years. They are in big demand aboard luxury cruises and summer dance/concerts.

  • Seattle (northwest) rock was the best. Sonics, wailers, viceroys, little bill and the bluenotes, the counts, Jimmy Hanna and the dynamics, Dave Lewis , the statics and many others rocked them all the way to Liverpool!

  • great live act.

  • Four people still don't like eating vegetables.

  • The Kingsmen actually had the 3 of the top selling 100 LPs of 1964 and 1965. They couldn't compete with the new Psychedelic groups coming out. They did some impressive Psych music too. Also they were on a very small label, unlike the raiders.

  • They were great!

  • There were a lot of "T.I.C." music back then (meaning, "tongue-in-cheek"); the Royal Guardsmen did a whole series about Snoopy, the Hollywood Argyles did "Alley Oop" (now I KNOW I'm old when I can remember THAT!), and of course the Kingsmen with "Jolly Green Giant". This was a fun time, and lyrices like that made the young ones giggle and the old ones sigh with relief that the lyrics weren't "naughty". A win-win for both...great post!!
