Thank you very much for the explanation. My professor went over these today and all he did was a truth table for it when it was represented as 2 and/1 or gate, and never did he say its function was a selector. I understood it literally 2 minutes in with your explanation. thank you!

Well, just a question, around 6:15, wasn't it supposed to be (D0).(S0)'.(S1)' + (D1).(S0).(S1)' + (D2).(S0)'.(S1) + (D3).(S0).(S1) ?

True. Good catch.
Normally I write my expressions MSB to LSB but for some reason I went in reverse when I wrote this one (not sure why) and negated the wrong ones. So, yes, the true combinational logic expression for X is:
X=D0S1!S0!+D1S1!S0+D2S1S0!+D3S1S0
