This video shows the simplicity of my heater chimney, with the little added finishing touches I added to the TOP of the chimney. I use three "T" pipes at the top, forming an H shape which comes in handy when there are down drafts down the side of my house. The H enables the down draft to blow right on down thru the parallel sides of my chimney instead of down the full length of my chimney and into my heater.

  • hey finally got back .I want to thank you for the idea of the tees for chimney. I put them on my green house , no more down draft!!! I don`t know if you garden,I imagine you do.Check out Back to Eden the Film ,its about 2 hrs.Great inspiration.Oh,and shrug off any negative comments on your ideas, they don`t have a clue. See ya

  • @SemperFiDude TY for your encouragement. The heater continues to prove itself and its impact on our family is greater than any negative comments posted here. Check out PicasaWet dot google dot com slash larsmith217 slash RocketHeaterExchanger

  • Am impressed by the T end...I spent my childhood in a house, were the wind in the wrong direction covered the kitchen in oil smuts from a oil fired stove & a very bad smell. But i'm suprised that the chimney does not develop problems being below the level of the roof, when the wind is on that side of the house.

  • @magna59 The wind from the wrong direction and blowing hard enough makes it so we can't run the heater. That happens perhaps 2 days out of the year so far.

  • Any update? I will be building a RMH with wood similar to your build but with a T configuration. Any update would be appreciated.

  • @davidgrahamscott Tell me more about what u mean by a "T configuration". I've now got my heater exhausting thru an 8" 90 degree elbow, straight up for just under 4 feet to two 90 deg elbows joined to form a half circle back down thru a MagicHeat, down thru the floor and out to the chimney.

  • good idea on chimney, think i will make on for my greenhouse

  • @LarsMith217 ah,just curious....great job:)

  • @chucka59 It "smokes" when I first start it up ,,, but it doesn't take long for the fire to be hot enough that no smoke makes it up the chimney and outside.

The only "draft control" in place is me placing a cinder landscaping block over the feed "tube". Once the heater is well-lit, I "cap" it and even with reduced air-intake, it burns hot and combustion appears to be very efficient.

  • @LarsMith217 hi,the smoke from loading the wood is going to be with any wood/ fuel furnace, but by there being no smoke when up to temp, means your burning efficiently, any good wood/solid furnace should not produce smoke..if it does..your not burning all the fuel, which causes build up of creosote, waste of wood, and waste of heat ,and not get full energy out of wood .but I like your idea with the cap set up,....but hows the build up inside flue to amount of wood?auto damper? with draft control?
