  • I wonder if they (FDNY) ever wear out their manual siren switch. I've never heard anyone else use it as much as them. I'm puzzled why they don't just turn the siren on like the rest of us??

  • Well, believe it or not, but NYC actually has a noice bylaw - which also affects emergency vehicles. So, tecnically, they can only turn it on when they are being blocked by other cars. That's why they only use it sporadically. But I personally think that's stupid, because even if you're only using it every few seconds, you're still "bothering" people...but all in all, NY isn't that noisy as it's made out to be in the movies!

  • @911caddy Also, if you leave the sirens on it will bounce off the building and you wont be able to tell where it is coming from

  • there was a man driving home in queens a few years ago, and he refused to get out of the way for an ambulance.

when the ambulance finally got around him, it went up the street to his house, where his wife had just died waiting for help.

  • @MidnightPolak where they DO have noise ordinances...sirens ONLY to be used when they are blocked by traffic is soooo NOT one of the rules. it's funny when people pull stuff out of their asses.

  • @911caddy Rescue 2, Ladder 3, and Ladder 24 usually do.

  • im pretty sure a siren means GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY!

  • @911caddy Also because, Noise/echo/loudness concerns in mostly high-rise areas I remember reading that somewhere, that is why the FDNY does not have the mechanical Q siren but they do have an "electronic" version of it called the EQ2B by Federal Signal.

  • good job mailman!!! you are trying to set a good example for the rest of them. they are to ignorant to notice though

  • Today i went to the city and an FDNY ambulance responding code 3 and was citing in traffic for a few minutes before it could get through the intersection. People don't care about the people in need but one day they going to need them(FDNY) and it's going to take long for them to respond.
