DON'T FORGET PART 2!
The Tolpuddle Martyrs were a group of agricultural labourers who were tried and transported to Australia for the 'crime' of trying to form a union. Their story is key to the formation of modern trades unionism.

  • some comments are a tad negative...it's up to us to keep the unions radical. the unions are still effective and have even greater potential

  • The Tolpuddle Martyrs must be spinning in their graves to see what has become of todays trade unions, all the leaders vying for a place in the House of Lords, just to be part of the establishment elite, the Trade Unions are part of the LibLabCon.

  • I'm no left-winger but I think the Commons are really bereft of Wedgie Benn and Dennis Skinner. Two real full-time politicians!!

  • @zaohad1 And Reverend John Ball. But Wat Tyler was the main man.

  • Trade Union history in Britain is going full circle. We have repressive anti-union laws and constant interferences by the courts in strike ballots. The press routinely reports industrial disputes as problems - ignoring the genuine grievances that lie behind them.
