The film put Gable ON THE MAP! After 'Soul,' every other MGM leading man -Chester Morris, Conrad Nagel, Neil Hamilton and others- were suddenly dimmed by the sexual lightning Gable could summon, seemingly effortlessly. Within a year, every MGM leading lady -Shearer, Garbo, Crawford, Harlow, Marion Davies and Constance Bennett, all had enjoyed at least one round of the "Gable treatment." He'd ALWAYS be a leading man, from this point till his final film with Marilyn Monroe in 1961.
