Kurtwood Smith plays Myron Castleman, an everyman who keeps repeating the same hour of his life, from 12:01 PM to 1:00 PM. The character is fully aware that the time loop is occurring, although no one else appears to be aware of the repeating hour. Each time the hour resets, Myron retains his memory (or as the film puts it, his consciousness).

Enjoy this Academy Award nominated short film from 1990, which allegedly was the source of inspiration for the 1993 classic time loop film Groundhog Day.

  • Thumbs up if you're watching this on Groundhog Day!

  • There was also an episode of The X-Files very similar to this and Groundhog Day, probably more to Groundhog Day. Great episode.

  • I do like it and plus the girl is so pretty

  • Groundhog Day IS ripped off from this short film. Period.

  • There's a written sequel to this, 12:02. *spoooooooilers* ...he finds a way out :D

  • Dumb ASS!!!

  • Groundhog is not a rip off, it was inspired.

and it is totally different. He has to repeat the same day over and over, not the same hour.

the movies that have the same concept that came out after Groundhog day are rip offs.

except for the episode of Supernatural "Mystery Spot." that was just pure genius and a briliant homage to Groundhog day.

  • @56postoffice Googled it, apparently there's one episode called "Shadow Play" from the 1960s version. There's a long list of movies/episodes from TV shows with this kind of concept, but I guess most of them won't follow the concept completely though

  • @ModeLTU So true. The look on Kurt's face when the scientist told him there's no way to fix the predicament he's in I thought "That's it he's trapped in Hell". I was just wondering if there's a Twilight Zone episode based on this timeloop premise

  • @56postoffice Exactly how I feel. Really daunting idea. That look on his face at the very end as he's left standing on the pedestrian island and camera zooms away.. So gut wrenching..

It's a shame so few people know this exists.

  • I caught this by accident one afternoon, and was mesmerised. Kurtwood Smith is a fantastic actor. I only found out later that "Groundhog Day" was based on this. But that was played for laughs, this is way creepier. One of the best short films I've seen

  • I remember this from 1990, there was something called the showtime 30 minute movie on...lol showtime channel. very neat!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I never thought I'd ever watch this film again. I caught it only once, by accident, in a cable TV station at the time. And it seemed I was the only one that knew that "Groundhog Day" was a rip-off.

  • what if those people in Finland or whatever with that Hadron super particle collider created this time loop and we are in it RIGHT NOW! Ohhh NOOOOO!

  • "I bet u think u are a real good cop, na na na na, pow" blows off hand, Robocop.

  • You barely know anything about him.

You're just as jarred as he is.

All he knows is that hour anymore.

    As do we.

And no one else knows anything.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA

  • Thanks for uploading this. I first saw this on a movie channel at a relative's house when I was a kid. I never forgot it. The only way I was able to find it again years later was searching the star's IMDB page. I still think it's incredible.

  • Thanks so much for posting a HQ versiono of this. I caught this gem about 15 years ago and was blown away by it. A dark, dark version of one of my most favourite films, groundhog day. Such an amazing short film.

  • saddest thing is he finds a woman who he really bonds with

  • This is so awesome.I found it on IMDB at "Groundhog Day" message board and DAMN it's incredible.

Definitely one of those movies which I'll remember for years to come

  • Look both ways when you cross the street dumbass.

  • man reddit finds everything cool

  • @ssesf There's another one called "Christimas Every Day" from 1996 where this HS kid who hates Christmas, and finds it phony, has to repeat the same xmas day over and over again with his family into he learns to like Christmas, and understands the true meaning behind it.

  • oh i've been searching for this movie since i watched it years before
