@snowxninja Thanks. I have tried using a drill but feel I have better control by hand. I agree on tapping soft woods but tend to use hardwood for turnings. Pacific Yew is about as soft as I go.
I put the tap into a battery drill on slow speed, for very soft woods i dont even bother with the tap, the threads push into the wood effectivly compressing and hardening in the process. Nice video !

You should make a jig for the drill press when drilling blanks.
