Thank you to all of you who prayed for the trip, and for Jennifer and the kids while I was gone. And thank you as well to those of you who were able to support me financially.
We were able to spend a lot of time building relationships with local people in the village. We also spent several days working on the home of the new headmaster. This consisted of scraping and painting walls, windows, and doors, scrubbing floors, demolishing the porch, rebuilding the kitchen, clearing debris from the building and yard, and landscaping the yard to prevent erosion during the rainy season.
Another project was at the small village clinic. We worked with the physician there to assist him in the treatment of people who came in with anything from intestinal worms to tuberculosis to decayed teeth. We also assisted with organizing medical supplies at the clinic, cleaning and sanitizing the facilities, providing physical therapy, and assisting with the HIV clinic and well-child clinic. We were able to do physical therapy with several children with developmental delays, and a few adults with back pain, knee pain, etc. For the HIV clinic we were able to help with registration, and assist with providing educational information and medication (free from the Tanzanian government) for HIV positive people. On the day of the well-child clinic we weighed and immunized over 240 infants and toddlers.
Overall, this was an incredible experience, and I'm excited to see how this trip continues to affect me as a Christian, a husband and father, and as a physical therapist.
