  • That is where a very thorough briefing comes in. When you loss sight of the leader, you declare lost wingman. An example of that call would be: "#2 Lost Wingman". At that point the lost wingman turns away from the formation by 30 degrees and either climbs or desends depending on the terrain and what was briefed. While that is going on, the leader is now introducing the lost wingman to ATC so that he can get a new squawk code and file a flight plan. It really works quite.

  • i am glad you guys can do aerobatics again in all but 2 airplanes!

  • what do you do if one plane disappears in a cloud?

  • i LOVE IT..and the other segment showing the landing is awesome too!

Been in cloud many times, (IFR rated) but never in formation..

    Thanks for posting!

  • I haven't the gut, will or desire to fly IFR... But based on what you see in the vid, it appears to be possible. As for safety. Again no expert, but formation flying requires constant sight of the lead plane, the others follow and of course they communicate intentions... No different in IFR, the 2 planes just follow the lead plane that is flying the IFR approach. There's some discussion before this occurred I'm sure; to plan ahead of failure or a formation dropout.

  • one question.. Is possible make an IFR app in a flight formation?

    Thanks

  • I've been a fan for a long time, but you couldn't pay me enough to do that!!!! That's crazy...LOL!

  • niiiiiiiiiiiice!

  • Wow, very impressive. really liked that and would loved to have seen the landing too.

  • You wouldn't, unfortunately, see much if it was IMC all the way - just the gear coming up as they climbed away. More interesting would be the continuation of the video to include the formation landing.
