In this second instalment, director Julian Fellowes discusses the challenges of working with children. In From Time To Time, Alex Etel plays the part of Tolly, a young boy sent to live with his grandmother when his father goes missing during World War 2. He appears in almost every scene of this haunting mystery spanning two worlds, centuries apart. It was adapted from Lucy M Boston's children's classic, The Chimneys of Green Knowe.

It's a story that the director has always wanted to film and he was delighted to be able to cast Alex, who also starred in Danny Boyle's Millions. "He has this curiously adult quality. He has an emotional imagination". Alex himself pays tribute to co-star, Dame Maggie Smith, and credits her with helping through the role.

Alex Etel is no stranger to Ealing Studios, having starred in BBC's Cranford which was shot at Ealing in 2009. In Cranford, he co-starred with Dame Judi Dench.

  • This is on ITV1 at 2:20pm on Boxing Day 2010. DVD out 21st Feb 2011 or thereabouts.

  • wow i saw him in millions he grew up

  • This film is currently showing at Athelhampton House, Dorset (Main Location) and selected arts cinemas across the UK. I will be seeing it at Athelhampton this Sunday, for the 3rd time! It's excellent, though I may be biased as I am local to the locations (My village/church) and I love the Greenknowe books.

I believe the cinemas and screening dates were on the Ealing Studios website a couple of months ago.

  • Thanks for posting part 2!
