Warning!!! This is not play training with cookies. This is serious dog training and both positive and negative reinforcement are used. Do not watch if you cried when Bambi got shot. Bleeding hearts with no logic, rhyme or reason need not comment. If you have a logical/educational reply please feel free to comment. Haters are not dog lovers. So don't waste band width ranting about how much you hate people, but love dogs no matter how they behave. Seek therapy and psychological counseling instead of making a lame comment about letting your dog pee on your children.

  • I agree Susan... Woman on a complete power trip. The people paying this woman must be fairly strapped for decent support. I wouldn't be soft in any shape or form, but this plainly shows a complete lack of foundation training. Quick fixes wreck good dogs.

  • The club she is training at has been in continuous existence for just over 100 years. This woman has titled many dogs to SchH 3 including this one. She qualified to compete in the Bundenseiger and was a Landesgrupen winner. Hummm....your right! She is a dumbass! Not to mention her dogs adore her. I was there. I saw this dog playing with her just after the release from this work session. You saw less than 4 minutes of work and are an expert on her and this dog. Amazing.

  • I have done some agility in the past. I now have my first GSD Now 8 mos old and plan to try my hand at SCH training. I was used to little corrections being enough with my BC in agility. I never knew how tenacious and thick skinned a dog could be untill I started the basics with him. I am glad to see its not just my dog that dosn't give up for nothing. Its hard trying to balance keeping him excited to do the work, and keeping him under controll.

Any advice for an aspiring SCH handler?

  • Excellent post. Check my blog for tips, read Gottfried Dildei & Sheila Booths book on training in drive. Bernard Flinks would also be a good resource to check into. E-mail any time you have questions. Best of luck to you.

  • i don't think it's fair to correct your dog that way, this dog doesn't even look like a hard dog to be corrected that way, if it's an NVBK dog probably i would use that type of correction, but this dog is not!...there is a better way to train this dog, so i agree with sauamel you should be out of business!!!

  • As far as going out of business goes I have been training professionally (full time, no other job) for well for 25 years. I was using positive reinforcement training, clicker and shaping methods, way, way, way before they were popular. I was looked down on for using them then and now it's just the way it's done. Today I use a range of methods to suit the dog and the clients needs. I will make a half mil this year in my business. Perhaps I am doing something right :)

  • negative punishment?? i saw positive punishment. positive because you + something ie pain. punishment because it decreases behaviour.... ummm basic operant conditioning!!!

"lets ignore science and use bully tactics"

but yes aversive training does work and it is possible to title in any sport with a combination of (P+)(P-)(+R)(-R) the R stands for Reinforcement by the way ;-) these dogs are so driven by bites or balls you have the biggest possible R+ but you chose the prong collar F****g bullys

  • Nice training!

the proof is in the pudding, dogs the are trained an the full spectrum of positive/negative reinforcement/punishment are more reliable dogs. yes corrections cause stress, learning can be stressful, but it is needed to gain proficiency. Ask a good golden gloves boxer if would rather not get popped in the nose when his hands drop in training, that pain/stress help him become a better boxer and he wont go far without some positive punishment for having bad form.

    happy training!

  • look at all the shit west german showline dogs with sch3 titles. watch their videos, they are shit. schutzhund used to be something in the old days, but they changed it to a sport now, and it's become soft and watered down. i laugh when the video author describes schutzhund training as serious. Lol you want serious? watch KNPV, NVBK, mondio, or even PSA maybe.

  • that's a soft dog, correction is too hard. also, it's best to reward immediately after correction. correction means you correct the dog. the dog is now correct after correction, so reward. sch3 is not hard, any dog can be sch3. i can take a shit dog to sch3, but it's easier to take a high drive and hard dog to sch3. i bet she would fail at mondioring.

  • @adamca96 That reply was from over two years ago and my opinions have changed. Really interesting to see that people still read it, though.

  • @Mirokiki Are you Kidding! a SHNAUZER! your comparing training that to a GSD. go back to small dog school where you go to the local pet store to learn sit down and stay... you have no clue!

  • @vonSontausenGSD

Are you seriously comparing your herding dog to a correct Schutzhund trainer. Your yelling and flailing around in your video. sloppy would be a compliment.

  • I find it interesting how the people commenting on the training are remiss to place there own videos of obvious perfection with there dogs? very easy to criticize people. The results are important as are the dog as a complete being, you forget the breed you speak of. Extremely driven animals with unbelievable work ethics. You train them hard for the simple fact they can handle it and EXCEL WITH IT! or maybe you can't see the failures in your own animals if you even own true pure blood shepherds.

  • Sloppy heeling.Unimpressive retrieves. Pretty much boilerplate old school stuff. If you want to see some impressive Schutzhund obedience look at Ivan Balabanov or Denise Fenzi...

  • Two things:

One - a lovely video and a lovely animal - the dog looks happy and focused. I've just started Schutzhund training with my one year old german shepherd pup and he's taking very well to it. Nothing strengthens your bond with your animal quite like proper training.

Two - why the hatred against liberals and Canadians? I'm both and I subscribe to the notion that a large, powerful dog requires a calm, assertive master with the ability to administer corrections when necessary.
