I greatly appreciate the demonstration of this particular ritual, as I had never seen it done or even heard the word before. Now that I am finding the Buddha's words so useful in my life, it has seemed only logical for me to explore the rituals as well as the texts.

@ruzickaw Zen is just another approach. Not right nor wrong. Just different.

I am sure Buddha practiced these prostrations and only through prostrations did he get inlightened and not by means of sitting meditation. So the Zen people must be wrong.

@shopaholicS2 you speak a mantra that basically says that you (and all sentient beings) take buddhism (meaning the goal = enlightenment, the path to it = dharma, the friends on the way = sangha) as your true refuge. The three motions with the hands (to the head, the throat, the heart centre) refer to body (head), speech (throat) and mind (heart centre), which are the essential tools on how we interact (talking, thinking, doing) and perceive our world.

Tịnh Nghiệp Tam Phước:
1- Hiếu dưỡng cha mẹ, phụng thờ sư trưởng, lòng từ bi không giết hại, tu thập thiện nghiệp.
2- Thọ trì tam quy, giữ vẹn các giới, chẳng phạm oai nghi.
3-Phát bồ đề tâm, tin sâu nhân quả, đọc tụng kinh đại thừa, khuyến tấn người tu hành.

It can be part of one's spiritual practice, for example, "Ngondro" (preliminary practices). Do check it out in Wikipedia.
