Roundtable Question 2: How do you use eBOARD "beyond the board?"

Notes:
Mark Willis explains how eBOARD was originally developed as a tool narrowly focused on the needs of the school board and is now being used beyond the board. He asks the panel for advice, challenges or resistance they may have seen from the board or from the staff on using this tool OUTSIDE the traditional methods.
Dr. Van Soelen of City of Decatur explains how they are using eBOARD as the governance solution for the school leadership teams of each charter school but that a district level person is initially helping manage the agendas in eBOARD until they are ready to take over that role.
Board Member of Barrow County suggests their biggest "user" challenge was the board itself as some were technology-challenged but overcame that and then were able to model and advocate good use with others.
Kristy Swain of Jeff Davis shares that had a copy of leery board members that they sat down with individually trained them and they now realize it is much easier to find meeting items when the need access to them. Eventually everyone came to the agreement that this is a good thing and that they must be role models to the teachers and the students.
Superintendent Frank Roberson adds that he is proud of his board members that have become tech savvy and beyond just e-mailing. The transparency of eBOARD is so helpful to address the needs of their vocal community. They plan on executing all of the dynamics and modules of eBOARD to enhance how they lead their school district.
Board Member Bernadette Seals contributes that If board members are resistant to using eBOARD the districts have to "get them there." Being able to access policies, vision and everything else on eBOARD without having to ask someone to get it for you is so helpful to a new board member like herself who is also a full-time employee and a "mom." She expands why it is important to know about issues when her constituents are so tech savvy and want to know answers right away.

Dr. Perry contributes a story of how an outside monitor of a school system program told her how he found all of the information he needed on eBOARD without having to ask a district staff member to provide that information to him.
