  • Is it true that the Government never actually broadcast these? I just heard it was because they didn't need them - they were only if attack was on the horizon

  • Yes, they were never shown, just designed to be if nuclear war seemed 'inevitable'.

  • There is one sure fire way to survive a nuclear attack and it's after math...

    Step one: Don't be there.

  • Or better yet dont check for fires as better to die from carbon monoxide from radiation poisoning,

  • @Pandemian Hello Pandemian, can you tell me what film did go out in the mid to late 70's please, I definitely remember one that scared me witless, I don't recall if it was an animation or one with actors, Thanks in anticipation, Dave

  • I think they should've gone with the truth... Something like "We're all totally fuct, so might as well break out the liquor & drugs, get shitfaced and fuck like wild animals... Might as well go happy!"

  • @kiashamed "10 females to every male!"

  • I love the way they have a pic of a typical NUCLEAR family on an information film about potential nuclear attacks!

  • i'd check for ghouls and radscorpions before checking for fires

  • @ZemplinTemplar

Would you rather tell a panicking population straight out "There's no point in doing anything but waiting for death, as most likely the effects of a nuclear explosion on the environment are too great for you to be able to do anything about it. So uh...yeah...ready to die?"

These videos, while giving tips on survival, also "tone down" the actual threat, leading people to believe it won't be all bad should this happen.

  • This is the most idiotic vid of the whole series. The estimates of the fires from the nuke explosion heat waves weren't pretty, particularly in urban enviroments. But the vid treats the threat of fires from the heat wave as some kind of easily solved minor annoyance ! WTF !!!

  • "The fire brigade may not be able to help everyone."

Truth is, the fire brigade wouldn't have bothered.

  • Death by carbon dioxide in your home or death by fallout outside? What a pleasant choice. :>
