Just Harvest staff joins the Food Research and Action Center's October 28, 2010 'Virtual Rally for Strong Child Nutrition Reauthorization' by taking it to East Carson Street, Pittsburgh! Supporters spoke out against the then-proposed (now enacted) $2.2 billion in food stamp cuts used to pay for the 'Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act'.
Just Harvest joined nutrition and anti-hunger advocates around the country in supporting the alternative bill, H.R. 5504, which did not identify food stamp cuts as a source of funding.
Before he signed the 'Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act' into law on December 13, President Obama pledged to work with congress to restore the cuts to SNAP/Food Stamps which are scheduled to take effect in November, 2013. On behalf of the over 154,000 in Allegheny County alone who depend on this program to put food on the table, we will continue to hold President Obama accountable to his promise!
