YIU-KWONG CHUNG: Heading for ( from Concerto for Percussion and Chinese Orchestra after 3 Poems by Sonja Huang )
Conductor: En Shao
Percussion: EVELYN GLENNIE

第一樂章,樂曲的背景來自黃晴的得獎詩作《月亮的哀求》,是她想像自己是在靜寂無聲世界中的月亮;筆調有點灰暗,獨奏部份是寫給二只小軍鼓,利用小軍鼓響弦的音色來刻劃出內心的吶喊;
第二樂章的背景來自黃晴一首非常樂觀的詩作《我相信》, 詩句到處表現出童真,獨奏部份是寫給一台木琴,樂隊伴奏部份以彈撥樂器為主,樂曲一開始有點獨自沉思的氣氛,之後一段旋律輕快活潑,自然流暢;

YIU-KWONG CHUNG: Concerto for Percussion and Chinese Orchestra after 3 Poems by Sonja Huang
1. Lament of the Moon 2. I Believe 3. Heading For
This percussion concerto was completed in March 2009 and receives its world premiere at the Taipei Deaflympics concert in September 2009. This concerto was specifically written for Evelyn Glennie. There a total of three movements in the piece. The setting for the music of the first movement comes from Sonja Huang's award-winning poem "Lament of the Moon," in which she imagines herself as the moon of a soundless and solitary world. Written in a somber style, the solo part is written for two snare drums, utilizing the timbre of the snare drum to sound out her inner battle cry. The setting of the second movement comes from "I Believe," a rather optimistic poem by Sonja Huang. The verses of this poem express the virtue of a child. The solo part is written for a marimba while the orchestral accompaniment consists mainly of the plucked-string section. The music begins with a solitary contemplative mood, then, a melodic section comes forth briskly and lively, flowing quite naturally. The third movement comes from a poem titled "Heading For," which Songja Huang wrote specifically for the contestants of the Deaflympics. The verses of the poem are quite inspiring and full of integrity. The solo part is written for 11 drums of various sizes and the music is divided into three sections. The first section portrays a wildness and boldness from an ancient and primitive time. The second section is a magnificent freestyle percussion section, full of splendor. What seems like a theme for the Olympics appears in the third section's theme, and finally the piece ends with a fanfare coda.
