You got that backwards. Princeps was the title that Augustus gave himself when he had, in fact, all the power of Rome for himself, because the romans didn't like the title "rex" for king. Rome wasn't a republic anymore at that point. And since then the meaning of the word turned into what it is today. You can't simply equate the term prince and princeps (speak: prinkeps) just because the one derived from the other.

That aside, why would you vote a mentally instable teenager as your ruler anyway?

Technically, America is both a republic AND a democracy. The word "republic" merely denotes a representative system, but makes no demand of WHO gets to decide their representatives. In the ancient Roman Republic, for example, only a tiny group of elites got to vote. In America, every citizen of age gets to vote. America is a democratic republic, and both are important to how our nation functions.

...but I'm nitpicking.

I was kinda thinking Luna would lead the Republic through it's first few decades to get it steady, and then give up her power to an elected leader before becoming 'god' to the republic and staying in some temple in the mountains or something, not really interfering with mortal matters unless it's severe.
