The composer of this popular 19th c salon piece is a mystery. I had thought he/she was Italian, but having seen discussions on the subject on a piano forum, I think that the author - often spelt as 'Galas' - was French, and quite possibly female, and had died (or given up writing) by 1924. Galos's pieces are composed of stock salon clichés. However,, they succeed where so much similar music has been forgotten because they lie well on the piano, have pleasant melodies, and, above all, they are well-proportioned and concise..

  • Interesting story: C. Galos was actually Giselle Galos, a female.

Early publications of Le Lac de Côme have been found under her full name.

  • @SovietTelevision Thank you. Where did you get that information - I have not heard about those early publications, and would like to know more!

  • I stop being a grumpy old man when I listen to you playing like that. If anyone can make a piano sing it`s you. What a piece of luck coming across your performances on YouTube.Stay with us my friend.!!

  • @tourlestrane1 Thank you - that's really kind. I may see if I can re-record this with better sound, maybe as an audio file.
