Lewis was the featured speaker at the 2009 Cherokee Nation Holiday held in Tahlequah, OK the Cherokee Capital. It is doubtful that Lewis heard much on the VIP Tour about Cherokee slaves known as Freedmen who were also removed and endured the "Trail of Tears." Neither did Lewis mention in his speech that he recently signed a letter along with Congress members John Conyers, Barney Franks, Diane Watson and others, asking Attorney General Eric Holder to open investigations into the CNO Civil Rights violations to Freedmen citizenship. Tribe may be out of compliance with the Federal Treaty of 1866 that re-established their government relationship with the US after the Civil War. Within that Treaty the Cherokee provided Cherokee Freedmen all rights as Cherokee citizens. Principle Chief Chad Smith has spent near $15 million of Cherokee money in the past years on attorneys and lobbyist fighting these Cherokee citizens. Good evidence shows "Little Dixie" is alive operating today inside the safety of tribal soveriegnty.

  • OK, I love Elvis too, but LOSE THE MUSIC.

Stop trying to be dramatic and make what he's saying audible.

  • Lewis pledged to help the Cherokee Nation. I sure hope he finds out soon that the CNO is really the Confederate Nation of Oklahoma and not the Cherokee Nation he wants to help.

  • Congressman Lewis why did you not meet with the Cherokee Freedmen while you were here visiting the Cherokee Nation? You will never get all of the legal facts from the CNO government.

Congressman we need you to carry the complete truth to President Obama and then make sure he also visits with Cherokee Freedmen while he is here!

    Power to the Cherokee Freedmen!

  • Weak on facts, weak on video quality, weak music. I think it's safe to say that a man with John Lewis' reputation and life experience would know racism when he sees it., and he obviously spent plenty of time with Cherokees found the exact opposite. It probably says a lot that a smart guy like Lewis took the time to find out what the Freedmen issue was about, and when he did, figured out it's not about race after all.

  • HOW MUCH DID SMITH PAY LEWIS TO HELP HIM NOT LOOK LIKE A RACIST? Lewis should be smarter after fighting the devil all these years. I hope he does get Obama to visit the CNO. The Presidents staff will research the freedmen controversy inside out and won't for any amount allow Obama to stumble so blindly into a racist's web. If he comes it will be with eyes wide open and the truth will set us free of Chad Smith!
